The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reported that its 35 representations throughout the country identify territorial reserves in states and municipalities for the construction of a thousand Child Education and Care Centers (CECI) in the current administration.
The coordinator of the IMSS Daycare Service for Comprehensive Child Development, Mariana Tajonar Miranda, indicated that in 2026 it is planned to install 181 new CECIs, whose projects would soon enter the Social Security investment portfolio.
The official highlighted that the properties for the installation of a CECI must be located in an area where there is demand for this service, with urban services (water, public lighting, among others) and that do not have external risks within 100 meters, for the safety of the girls and boys.
Tajonar Miranda explained that the CECI already have a prototype tested with the Infrastructure, Special Projects and Investment Portfolio Unit of the IMSS and with the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation.
Currently, he said, the 1,271 Social Security daycare centers in the national territory cover 13 percent of the potential demand, which is why it is necessary to expand the service to benefit early childhood.
In the work of identifying the properties, the heads of the Deconcentrated Administrative Operation Bodies have contacted state and municipal governments in order to learn about the proposals and advance the project.
He stressed that there are 14 reserve properties already identified that can be used; risk-free land free for construction, which passed the first filters to start a construction project.
