Claudia Sheinbaum: what is persona non grata and what implications does this diplomatic measure have?

According to the internationalist Óscar Vidarte, that Congress declare the president of Mexico persona non grataIt is more symbolic than effectivesince it reflects the discomfort of the Peruvian political system, especially when it comes to someone who is not in the country.

In addition, he pointed out his concern about the possible rupture of relations between both countries, especially after the Government of José Jerí granted a “peremptory deadline” to the person in charge of the Mexican embassy in Peru to leave the country. He mentioned that, “I imagine that, out of reciprocity, the Mexican government must be expecting the same from the Peruvian authorities.”

“If Peru expels Mexican authorities from the country, the same thing is expected to happen in Mexico. Or the Mexican Congress could do something similar, although it cannot be guaranteed that this will happen,” he added.
