The Court 9 of Zulia decreed a sentence consisting of 26 years in prison for Alex Camargo Mendoza, Elvis Villalobos Bracho and Brayan González Espina for the kidnapping of a woman, reported the Public Ministry.
The event took place on March 14, 2014, on Toas Island in the Almirante Padilla municipality, in Maracaibo (Zulia). In the morning hours of that day, the victim was with her husband and two children aboard a boat heading towards the aforementioned town when they were intercepted by three armed men who forced them to stop the boat and put the woman on another boat where they were moving to begin their escape.
After the event, the spouse reported what happened to officials of the Anti-Extortion and Kidnapping Group (Gaes) of the Bolivarian National Guard. After 12 days of captivity, the victim was rescued by his relatives on an island in Lake Maracaibo, while the attackers were detained by Gaes officials in a mangrove swamp on Toas Island.
During the trial, the 49th Prosecutor’s Office of that jurisdiction ratified the accusation against the aggressors for the crimes of kidnapping and aggregation.
Once the evidence presented by the prosecutors in the case had been evaluated, the 9th Trial Court of Zulia handed down the aforementioned sentence against Camargo Mendoza, Villalobos Bracho and González Espina, who remain detained in different police centers, the bulletin says.
