A 4.0 magnitude earthquake surprised the central jungle of the country this Thursday, November 6. The movement occurred at 5:55 pm (local time) and was reported by the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP).
According to the IGP, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 52 kilometers north of Satipo, in the Junín region, with a depth of 113 kilometers. The intensity of the movement was rated as III on the Mercalli scale in the city of Pisco, which indicates a mild perception by the population, without causing structural damage.
So far, authorities have not reported material damage or victims. However, the event has generated concern among citizens.
The population is recommended to remain calm, review their emergency plans and follow the instructions of Civil Defense.
The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reported on its social networks that the 4.0 magnitude earthquake was also felt in Puerto Bermúdez, Oxapampa – Pasco.
