Raúl Rocha, owner of Miss Universe, defends Miss Mexico and announces measures against Thai director

“Enough, Nawat!” Raúl Rocha, president of Miss Universe, spoke out after the director’s insult to Miss Mexico in Thailand. This is what he said.

On November 4, during the ceremony for handing over bands of Miss Universe 2025, The most important beauty pageant in the world was involved in a strong controversy after an altercation involving Nawat Itsaragrisil, director of the contest in Thailand, and Fátima Bosch, representative of Mexico.

According to the attendees, Itsaragrisil would have called “idiot” to the Mexican candidate in front of several people, which caused immediate indignation among the participants and the jury members.

The empathetic reaction of the other candidates did not take long to arrive: Many of them got up from their seats and left the room as a sign of support for Miss Mexico. Even Miss Thailand publicly expressed her disagreement with the director’s behavior, generating a moment of tension that quickly went viral on social networks.

The event unleashed an avalanche of criticism against Nawat Itsaragrisil, whom several users and former Miss Universe participants pointed out for his lack of respect and professionalism.

In the face of growing media pressure and calls for dismissal of the Thai director, the president of Miss Universe, Raúl Rocha, decided to speak out publicly.

During a speech of more than six minutes, Rocha expressed his total rejection of what happened and defended the values of the organization. “I will not allow the values of respect and dignity towards women to be violated. Unfortunately, Nawat has forgotten the meaning of what it is to be a true host,” he said.

The president continued pointing out his repudiation of the Thai manager, ensuring that his behavior contradicts the principles of the contest. “I want to make clear my great indignation and repudiation for the public aggression against Fátima Bosch, Miss Universe Mexico, whom he humiliated, insulted and disrespected. Furthermore, it was a serious abuse to have called security to intimidate and exclude her. Enough, Nawat! Every woman in the world should be respected,” she emphasized.

What sanctions will be imposed?

Rocha announced that the director’s participation in the upcoming contest events will be “very limited or none”, while the relevant legal actions are developed.

“I have instructed our CEO, Mario Bucaro, to issue an official statement on behalf of the Miss Universe organization, detailing the corporate and legal measures we will carry out as consequence of these malicious acts,” he explained.

In addition, he reported that an executive delegation was sent directly to Thailand to regain control of the concentration of candidates, which until then was under the administration of the Itsaragrisil team. “I wish to emphasize that the delegates of all countries have my total and absolute unconditional support,” he stressed.
