The Prosecutor’s Office revealed details of the murder of the University of Los Andes student after leaving a Halloween party.
News Colombia.
During the hearing to request a security measure against Juan Carlos Suárez Ortiz, the main person involved in the homicide of the student Jaime Esteban Moreno Jaramillo, the Attorney General’s Office revealed four testimonies that are fundamental to clarify what happened in the early hours of October 31. The stories, supported by a 179-page technical report, describe in detail how the brutal attack would have developed in the vicinity of the Before Club nightclub, in Chapinero, where the 20-year-old young man was beaten until he was unconscious.

The first testimony corresponds to Juan David, a friend of the victim and considered the main witness in the case. According to their version, both left the nightclub around 3:25 am and were intercepted by a subject with his face painted red and black, without a shirt and wearing black pants, who without saying a word hit Jaime Esteban in the back of the head, knocking him to the floor. The witness reported that two women accompanied the aggressor, one of them dressed in blue, who pointed at the victim and accused him of being “the one from the nightclub.” Despite trying to stop the attack, Juan David assured that the attacker threatened them before they both left the scene.

Minutes later, however, the violence resumed. Juan David observed how the same group chased and attacked his friend again when he tried to leave the site. According to his story, the aggressor and his companions kicked him multiple times in the face and body, while the woman in blue incited him by saying that they should continue hitting him. His testimony coincides with the injuries described in the forensic report and with the security camera videos recovered by investigators.

The second witness, identified as AI, was also in the nightclub and witnessed part of the attack. He testified that he saw the attacker — characterized as a character from Fight Club — hit the victim dressed as “Tyler Durden” from behind. According to his version, the aggressor sought the approval of his group, going so far as to ask: “Could it be that I am persecuting him? Encourage me.” One of the women, dressed in blue, responded: “Not a lot of kickboxing? I would have hit him more,” encouraging him to continue the attack. The witness claimed to have recorded part of the scene with his cell phone, material that is already in the possession of the Prosecutor’s Office.
A third witness, VP, reinforced this version by stating that the group of friends actively encouraged the aggressor. He said he heard phrases like “he has to hit him well” and “I know I can finish that man off,” which shows—according to the prosecutor in the case—that there was premeditation and coordination in the beating. The woman in the blue costume, mentioned again, would have played a decisive role in provoking and encouraging the attack against the victim.
Finally, SV, a neighbor who observed the events from the second floor of her home, described how the group of attackers continued hitting Jaime Esteban when he was already on the ground. He stated that, in addition to the young man with a painted face, another subject with “rabbit ears” joined in the beating, throwing him to the floor again. His testimony was key to reconstructing the victim’s final moments and confirming collective participation in the attack.
During the hearing, prosecutor Claudia Lucía Rodríguez maintained that the testimonies reveal “exceptional severity” and a clear intention to cause death. He pointed out that the film records show that Jaime Esteban did not resist or attack, but was chased, knocked down and beaten until he was unconscious. “We are facing the violent death of a young university student with a promising future, whose life was interrupted by an excessive and cowardly aggression,” the official concluded, announcing that the proceedings will continue this Friday, November 7 at 8:30 am
