Theft of mirrors in Medellín: video shows theft on Oriental Avenue

The video of a street dweller stealing a rearview mirror on Oriental Avenue raises alarm among drivers and merchants.

There is concern among drivers and merchants on Avenida Oriental in Medellín, after a video went viral, showing the daring theft of a rearview mirror by a street dweller to a vehicle that was stopped at a red light.

The clip, recorded by another driver, captures the exact moment when the man approaches the car and, without saying a word, tears off the car’s side mirror with a single pull.

Merchants and residents of the area have expressed their concern, pointing out that these homeless people carry out several thefts a day on Oriental Avenue.

It is presumed that the main objective of these robberies is to obtain quick money for drug consumption. According to the complaints, the stolen items, such as rear-view mirrors, are taken to purchase points and illegal sale or to pawn shops where they are sold quickly for a sum of money.

This phenomenon is not isolated; Previous reports had already warned about the theft of these pieces at traffic lights on important roads such as San Juan and Oriental, with sales for minimal amounts.

The situation becomes more critical when remembering previous episodes of violence in other parts of Medellín, where homeless residents have carried out serious attacks. In the past, cases have been reported where these individuals threw stones at drivers, even causing injuries and, unfortunately, deaths, which has generated a climate of fear and insecurity on the roads.
