EBC mounts largest operation in history to broadcast Summit and COP30

After the experience as host broadcaster of the G20 Brazil, in 2024, and the BRICS, in the first half of this year, Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC) will be responsible for generating and distributing the official signals for the Belém Climate Summit and the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), events that take place between November 6th and 21st, in the capital of Pará. “This operation is unprecedented in the company’s history”, recalls Bráulio Ribeiro, general director of EBC. “Our mission is to ensure that the world follows, with quality and precision, the debates that will define the direction of global climate policy”, summarizes Ribeiro.

There are hundreds of professionals involved, 42 simultaneous signals, radio and TV studios, an IPTV system with more than 330 display points and transmission in UHD 4K — the most advanced image quality standard available. There will be 15 simultaneous channels that will allow debates to be followed, in real time, at the International Media Center (IMC), VIP area and other points in the Blue Zone.

As host broadcasterEBC is responsible for registering 44 spaces – including meeting rooms, plenary rooms and press conference rooms – with 140 video cameras, including 26 4K broadcast cameras and PTZ cameras, in addition to enabling the entire IMC transmission structure, a place reserved for journalists and communicators.

International Media Center (IMC)

A traditional space for international events, the COP30 IMC stands out due to its size, around 2,200 m², and the number of journalists it can accommodate. According to information from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), more than 3,600 national and international journalists are expected, of which at least 1,500 are from radio and TV.

The IMC offers support for 58 news or broadcast agency rooms measuring 16 m², 16 TV studios, 15 broadcast press rooms measuring 32 m², 8 radio and TV studios and 324 free workstations for journalists to use their own equipment. All professionals with access to the IMC will have a guaranteed internet signal and electricity points, as well as free access to the two Blue Zone conference rooms.

Master Control Room (MCR)

A new development developed by EBC is the creation of a Master Control Room (MCR), a room specially designed by the technical team with 12 42-inch televisions where it is possible to check the sound and image quality of all the event cameras. This center will function as the heart of the transmission, ensuring recording, distribution, quality control, stability and reliability for all content generated.

Distribution of official content and original productions

Journalists will be able to follow the main moments of the events via satellite signal (StarOne C3), streaming on YouTube via the official COP30 Brasil channel and on-demand SRT links. The recorded content will be available for download on the EBC distribution portal, without the need for prior accreditation. All materials are free to use for journalistic purposes.
