He Government of Mexico published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) an agreement that establishes the maximum age limit for used heavy vehicles with diesel engines that are imported into the country at 10 years.
The same agreement defines the environmental conditions in matters of maximum limits established permissible emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere, applicable to vehicles equipped with a diesel engine and with a gross weight greater than 3,857 kilograms.
The Secretariats of the Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) and Economy (HE) issued the document, effective this Tuesday, which states that the year of manufacture of the engines integrated into vehicles with a gross weight greater than 3,857 kilograms “should not be more than ten years at the time of their introduction into the country.”
The importers they must declare under oath of truth, “that the engine has not been altered or modified, which can be subject to verification or inspection.”
The above, according to the agreement, “without prejudice to the compliance of the others legal provisions that are applicable for the definitive import of used vehicles, as well as those that must be complied with for their circulation within the national territory”.
Represents 5%
In a joint conference, Alicia Barcenaholder of Semarnatexplained that diesel vehicles represent 5% of the automotive fleet, and represent 61% of pollutants.
“Therefore, having a rule and an agreement like today’s means that it will not be possible to import any type of diesel truck of this nature, weighing 3,675 kilograms, that has more than 10 years of life, let’s say, and that complies with international standards, and that also complies with the national standards“he noted.
While Marcelo Ebrardholder of the HEsaid that the rule “establishes the same conditions for importing used cargo vehicles.
They have to meet the same standards as those produced in Mexico. So starting today “This will come into force, it means that many vehicles that are highly polluting will no longer be able to be introduced into the country.”
