The Emergency Operations Center (COE) carried out the Fifth National Earthquake Evacuation Drill this Wednesday with the purpose of preparing the Dominican population on how to respond if an event of that nature occurs.
To participate in the exercise, which aimed for citizens to practice contingency plans, protocols and procedures for family, business and institutional evacuation to strengthen preparation and response in general, A total of 2 million 800 thousand 005 people registered through the page: www.coe.gob.do.
The number of registered individuals was grouped as individual (1,800), family (457), institutional (4,300) and industrial or commercial activity (984), for a total of 7,517 receptions.
After concluding the Drill, which had the Juan Pablo Duarte government building as its starting point, the director of the COE, Juan Manuel Méndez García, described the drill as successful and thanked the population for their enthusiasm in practicing their evacuation route.
“Given that earthquakes cannot be predicted, this Drill will help us know how to act in the event that an event of this nature occurs in the country,” said Méndez García.
Likewise, he urged the population to frequently practice this Wednesday’s exercise, guided by the instructions on what to do before, during and after an earthquake, as well as the guide to develop an emergency plan, also available on the organization’s social networks.
This is the fifth time that the COE carries out this type of exercises. The first four were carried out in the previous years.
