Event journalist Joan Camargo was taken away by individuals dressed in black and without identification after leaving his house. Until now, it is unknown where he was held, the reason why he was taken and what organization had him these days.
Event journalist Joan Camargo appeared this Tuesday afternoon, November 4, after having been missing since last Thursday, October 30, around 8:00 am, when he was taken by men dressed in black without identification when leaving his home in Caracas.
The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) reported through its count in X: “After five days missing, journalist Joan Camargo regained his freedom.” However, it is unknown which security agency was responsible for his disappearance, where he was held these days and the reason why he was taken away.
The SNTP demands “a timely investigation and urgent sanctions for those responsible for the forced disappearance of which he was a victim for more than 100 hours,” they wrote.
María Dolores Rodríguez, mother of Joan Camargo, had asked this Tuesday information to the authorities about the whereabouts of his son. He had expressly requested the Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, to report on the reporter and university professor.
*Journalism in Venezuela is carried out in a hostile environment for the press with dozens of legal instruments in place to punish the word, especially the laws “against hate”, “against fascism” and “against the blockade.” This content was written taking into consideration the threats and limits that, consequently, have been imposed on the dissemination of information from within the country.
