Daikel Gé Arias, 24, died due to unexpected respiratory arrest, according to sources close to the boxer.

MADRID, Spain.- The young Guantanamo boxer Daikel Gé Arias recently died at the age of 24, as confirmed by several pages dedicated to Cuban boxing on social networks. His death, caused by respiratory arrest, has caused great shock among relatives, athletes and sports followers in the eastern province.

The specialized Knock Out Boxing page posted a message farewell message in which he highlighted his talent and human quality: “A talent from Guantánamo and an active and beloved member of our community has left us too soon, at just 24 years old. Daikel Gé Arias had an unexpected respiratory arrest […] He leaves an immense void in his family, with an adorable child, and an indelible memory in the lives of countless friends who knew how to appreciate his nobility, his good behavior and his values.”

Arias had gone through the high performance pyramid in the 57 kilogram division, where he was considered a disciplined athlete with great projection.

On social networks, hundreds of users mourned his death and shared memories of their time at sports schools. “My brother Daykel, my mind never forgets everything we experienced in the EIDE,” wrote Juan Reyes Duvergel. Other messages, like that of Yunileidis Ramírez, expressed the pain of the sports community: “I still can’t believe it, what great pain I feel in my heart. The EPEF in Guantánamo will always remember you wherever you are.”

Versions also emerged among the comments suggesting that the young man could have been ill before his death. Some users mention that a virus currently circulating in the country could have aggravated their health, although this information has not been confirmed.

“Was he sick?” asked Nevay Machado Rodríguez, to which Isabel Rodríguez, close to the boxer, responded: “The virus got complicated.” “That virus is wreaking havoc,” Machado added in another comment.

The Guantanamo and national sports community has expressed its regret for the loss of this promising boxer. “Our commitment is and will be to honor his memory, always carrying his spirit high. We will never forget you, champion,” concluded the Knock Out Boxing message.
