Colombia obtained sanitary admissibility to export fresh pineapple to Brazil, After a technical process started in 2018 and led by the Colombian Agricultural Institute (ICA)with support from the Ministries of Agriculture and Commerce.
The decision opens the door to one of the agricultural markets largest in the region and marks a new step in the bilateral health agenda.

The announcement was formalized during a meeting between the ICA manager, Paula Andrea Cepeda, and the Secretary of Commerce and International Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil, Luís Ruain which both governments defined a roadmap to advance the exchange of agricultural products.
Paula Andrea Cepeda highlighted that the sector was prepared for this step: “Today we achieved results for both Colombia and Brazil. regarding admissibility. “Our producers are ready to carry out this commercial relationship”
. He added that the Colombian pineapple will reach the Brazilian market after meeting the established health requirements:
“The fresh pineapple fruit that is produced in our land comes to conquer Brazilian palates.”
For his part, Luis Rua He noted that the decision benefits both nations“we leave with great news not only for Colombian producers with the admissibility of pineapple, but also for Brazil with the update of the sanitary requirements for flours of animal origin.”
Five Colombian companies with operations in Valle del Cauca and Urabá They have already expressed their intention to export pineapple to Brazil. The ICA indicated that it will continue working on new sanitary accesses for other national agricultural products.

The process included technical exchange, risk studies, visits and phytosanitary adjustments, with the aim of guaranteeing compliance with the standards required by Brazil. According to the ICA, the achievement is part of its strategy of health diplomacy to strengthen agricultural trade.
The entity assured that the entry of pineapple opens the way for more Colombian products in that market and highlighted the joint work between institutions and producers to achieve this result.
