Early this Monday, the collapse of one of the towers of the San Ignacio de Loyola church, in the province of Junín, alarmed the residents of the area. The structure, built in 1640, collapsed due to the deterioration of time and lack of maintenance, damaging one of the 17th century bronze bells.

According to the residents, the loud roar woke up several families, although fortunately the collapse left no injuries. However, the fall of the tower caused material damage to the temple and highlighted the abandonment of this historical heritage.

Until now, neither the Provincial Municipality of Junín nor the Ministry of Culture had declared the church an emergency to carry out conservation or prevention work. The lack of intervention would have accelerated the deterioration of the infrastructure that, due to its age, is part of the religious architectural legacy of the region.
