DGII: There are 107 days left to renew the 2025-2026 tag and avoid fines

La DGII hizo un llamado a renovar a tiempo

They are missing 107 days for the end of the period of renewal of the Vehicle Circulation Tax (tag) 2025-2026, next Sunday, January 18, 2026, reported the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII).

This year, the DGII highlighted that 2,086,756 vehicles are authorized to renew their tags, with an estimated collection of RD$3,433,806,000.00. The tax values are maintained compared to the previous period:

• RD$1,500.00 for vehicles manufactured until 2020.
• RD$3,000.00 for vehicles manufactured from 2021 onwards.

The DGII reported that the renewal can be carried out electronically through the website www.dgii.gov.do or the DGII mobile application, from the beginning of the period until January 18, 2026.

In person, it can also be renewed in 47 financial entities with 856 branches nationwide, as well as in the DGII collection offices in Villa Vásquez (Montecristi) and Sánchez (Samaná), until January 31, 2026. For the in-person process or the receipt of electronic orders, it is essential to present a photocopy of the vehicle’s license plate, updated and in good condition.

However, it has become almost a custom that the DGII must extend the deadlines, and that many taxpayers end up paying penalties for not renewing on time. During previous years, endless queues and crowds have been observed in branches and collection shops, with images that many describe as Dantesque, due to the large number of people who come at the same time to carry out the renovation.

Sanctions:

• RD$2,000.00 for not renewing before January 31, 2026.
• RD$2,100.00 for vehicles that did not renew the 2024-2025 tag.
• RD$3,100.00 for vehicles that were not renewed in 2023-2024 or previous years.
The DGII encourages owners to plan the renewal in advance to avoid surcharges and long waits, and recommends using electronic channels whenever possible. This article was originally published in The Day
