He congressman Wilson Soto Palacios presented a bill that proposes modifying article 279-G of the Penal Code, in order to impose the penalty of life imprisonment on those who illegally manufacture, market, carry, use or possess firearms.
The legislative proposal arises as a response to the increase in violent crimes committed with unauthorized weapons, a phenomenon that, according to the parliamentarian, has intensified the climate of insecurity throughout the country.
The legislator stressed that the State has the obligation to adopt more severe measures to deter this type of behavior and protect the population.
The project also contemplates that the maximum penalty be applied when those responsible are part of criminal organizations or are members of the Armed Forces, the National Police of Peru or the National Penitentiary Institute, whether active or retired. In addition, the initiative incorporates perpetual disqualification in the cases contemplated.
The legislative proposal was submitted for review in the competent committees of the Congress of the Republic, where its viability will be evaluated.
