President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva visited this Sunday (2) Aldeia Vista Alegre de Capixauã, in the Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractive Reserve, in the Santarém Region, in Pará. “One thing I found strange. I thought there was energy, because I see a light on here, and I saw that everyone complained about energy,” said the president.

“Today, energy is the easiest thing for us to do, because we can make solar panels, we can preserve the environment, we can bring energy to you, and I promise you that you will have energy here in your community”, he reinforced.

Inserted in the Tapajós-Arapiuns Resex, the indigenous villages in the region still depend on progress in the demarcation process, which should occur next year, in the case of the communities of Vista Alegre and Escrivão, according to the president of the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), Joência Wapichana.

“Funai has this challenge. That’s why it’s important to follow up because there are a lot of demands and a lot of requests. We have this schedule of [fazer] these two physical demarcations in the first half of next year”, he highlighted.

In addition to the president of Funai, ministers Sônia Guajajara (Indigenous Peoples), Marina Silva (Environment and Climate Change) and first lady Janja da Silva accompanied Lula on this Sunday’s agenda.

indigenous university

Still in the Vista Alegre village, Lula announced the creation of the Indigenous University, on November 17th, in an event that should take place in Brasília.

“We already have an indigenous minister, the indigenous Funai, the head of indigenous health and we lack an indigenous university. It will have its headquarters there in Brasília, it even has a building, the main course can be held there, but all states will do an extension with the university so that the girls can take the course close to where they live and not need to go to Brasília”, specified the president.

The visit to indigenous communities is part of the preliminary agenda before the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP30), which will take place from November 10 to 21, in Belém, Pará. On Saturday (1st), in the capital of Pará, the president participated in the inauguration of the expansion of the international airport and the Port of Outeiro, two of the main logistical preparation works for the UN event.
