The Attorney General’s Office requested to activate the preventive alert in Chocó due to the rain emergency that affects more than 18 municipalities.
As a result of the crisis that the department of Chocó is experiencing due to the winter wave that has affected more than 18 municipalities, the Attorney General’s Office urgently requested to declare a state of preventive departmental alert in the territory.
In that sense, the Chocó Regional Prosecutor’s Office asked the governor, the director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), the director of the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology, and Environmental Studies (IDEAM), the director of the Unit for Comprehensive Care and Reparation of Victims (UARIV), among other authorities, to arrange the use of emergency resources to attend to the most affected places.

Furthermore, through a statement from the control entity it was learned that asked the Government and the UNRGD to have mobile humanitarian assistance brigades and technical in rural areas, and that a permanent communication channel be established with mayors’ offices, relief agencies and local associations.
The Attorney General’s Office pointed out that, with the activation of the Unified Command Post (PMU) and the development of this action seeks to strengthen the early institutional responsereduce the exposure of the population at risk and guarantee the fundamental right to life, within the framework of the National Risk Management Policy.

At the moment, The Chocó department is in a state of massive emergency after the impact of 18 municipalities, Due to the heavy rains that today leave, as a preliminary report, 20,000 families affected. Currently the most affected municipalities are: Lloró, Alto Baudó, Istmina and Belén de Bajirá.
