Change in the presidency of the ATU: David Hernández returns to office after the resignation of Jaime Romero

He Executive power made official this Friday, October 31, a series of changes in the Urban Transportation Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU), entity responsible for planning, regulating and supervising the Integrated Transportation System in the capital.

Through two supreme resolutions published in the official newspaper El Peruano, the resignation of the until then president of the Board of Directors, Jaime Francisco Romero Bonilla, was accepted and David Augusto Hernández Salazar was appointed to replace him, who returns to a position he had already occupied months ago.

The measure was formalized by Supreme Resolution No. 017-2025-MTC, which records the resignation presented by Romero Bonilla, appointed in January of this year as president of the ATU Board of Directors. The document thanks the services provided and establishes that the decision is endorsed by the Minister of Transportation and Communications, Aldo Prieto.

Minutes later, through Supreme Resolution No. 018-2025-MTC, the Executive ordered the appointment of Hernández Salazar as a new member and president of the Board of Directors of the ATU.

His appointment was made following a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) and in compliance with the requirements established in Law No. 30900, the rule that created the entity, as well as its organizational regulations.

The arrival of Hernández does not represent an administrative novelty, but rather a return. The official had held the Executive Presidency of the ATU until the beginning of the year, when he was replaced by Romero Bonilla.

Its return implies the continuity of the management line that had been interrupted and that includes the reorganization of routes, the reform of traditional public transportation, and the coordination with the operators of systems such as the Metropolitan and complementary corridors.

The resolutions bear the signatures of the President of the Republic, José Enrique Jerí Oré, and Minister Aldo Martín Prieto Barrera, which confirms the decision as part of the current agenda of the Executive regarding urban transportation in the capital.
