23 dead reported after fire in store in downtown Hermosillo

This Saturday night, the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, offered an official message after the fire that occurred in a Waldos store in the center of Hermosillo, where he confirmed that 23 people died and 11 were injured. Among the victims there are minors.

“The explosion that occurred in the Waldos store in the Centro neighborhood has left deep sadness in each and every Sonoran… So far there is a record of 23 people dead and 11 injured,” Durazo reported.

Comprehensive support for families

The governor expressed his solidarity with the victims and their families, and announced that he instructed all state agencies to provide comprehensive support, including medical, psychological and social care.

“I have instructed all State government agencies to provide comprehensive support.”

Durazo highlighted the performance of the emergency, security and health personnel who came from the first moments to control the fire and rescue people.

The state president assured that an exhaustive and transparent investigation will be carried out to clarify the causes of the fire and define responsibilities.

Message from Claudia Sheinbaum

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, also spoke out regarding the tragedy:

“My heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the people who died in the fire that occurred in a store in the center of Hermosillo.”

He reported that he has been in communication with Governor Durazo and that the Federation will support what is necessary. In addition, he instructed the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to send support equipment to care for family members and injured people.

“I have been in contact with the governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo, to support whatever is needed. I instructed the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, to send support equipment.”

Durazo ended his message by assuring that the affected families will not be alone and will have the support of the State Government and the people of Sonora.
