Santo Domingo.– This November 1st marks another year of the death of Micky Bretonone of the most influential creators and narrators of Dominican television, whose work marked a generation and changed the way television is made in the country.
Bretón began his career in the mid-1970s in the children’s area, in “The House of Pequita”where he drove alongside Anita Ontiveros and gave life to characters like Trigoliths.
From the beginning, he showed a special talent for connecting with the audience and telling stories with sensitivity and humor.
At the end of 1979, Bretón worked as editor at the newly inaugurated Channel 2, Teleantillasand the following year he traveled to Madrid to pursue a degree in Television at the Complutense University.
During his stay in Spain, he collaborated with Spanish Television as a video producer, an experience that would broaden his vision of television narrative.
Upon returning to the Dominican Republic in 1995, he assumed direction of the program “Nuria in 9”where it had started years ago on children’s television. He later wrote and directed “On the edge of life”a space in which dramatized stories and social stories catapulted him to fame, consolidating his reputation as an innovative creator committed to the reality of the country.
Between 2004 and 2009, Bretón produced and directed “Stories of Micky Bretón”a series that combined drama, social criticism and urban realism, becoming a quality benchmark on Dominican television.

Prior to this, he had also worked as a producer for shows such as “No one is perfect” and “Night of light”showing his versatility and creativity in different genres.
On November 1, 2009, Dominican television and culture lost one of its great storytellers, when Bretón was murdered in a motel.
More than a decade after his departure, the legacy of Micky Breton is still valid. Their stories continue to inspire new generations of filmmakers and scriptwriters, reminding us that television can be tool for reflection, criticism and social transformationbeyond simple entertainment.
