State Security detains Lady in White Leticia Ramos Herrería in Matanzas

The Lady in White had been peacefully protesting for days in favor of the political prisoners and the critical situation on the Island.

LIMA, Peru – The State Security of the Cuban regime arrested the Lady in White Leticia Ramos Herrería this Saturday in Cárdenas, province of Matanzas.

“My mother was detained an hour ago by a state security officer and a patrolman,” denounced Ramos Herrería’s son from the profile on Facebook of the Cuban

According to the publication, the Lady in White had been peacefully protesting for days in favor of the political prisoners and the critical situation existing on the Island.

“Last night and early morning my mother spoke out strongly against the regime and apparently the snitches have been activated since my mother arrived in Cuba,” said the son.

Likewise, the young man blamed the Cuban regime for anything that could happen to Leticia Ramos Herrería, highlighting that the Cuban woman’s health is “quite deteriorated” and she suffers from a heart condition.

“They are not going to silence us. They are going to have to kill us,” the complaint concludes.

Since their union in 2003, the Ladies in White have been persecuted by the Cuban Government. Each month, the group appears in the reports of Cubalex and Prisoners Defenders as one of the most repressed by the Castro police.

At the end of last August, Ramos Herrería, leader of the movement Ladies in White in the province of Matanzas, she reported being threatened by the Cuban regime if she continues with her activist work.

Ramos Herrería was arrested around that time for almost seven hours after leaving the national headquarters of the opposition group located in the capital neighborhood of Lawton. In a recent conversation with Martí News The activist reported having been fined and threatened that day. And she reported that after the arrest she was transferred between several police units in Havana and Matanzas.

“These officers took me to the police headquarters. State Securitythe Counterintelligence of Matanzas, where the head of ‘Confrontation’ of Matanzas and two other officers were waiting for me,” she explained. According to the opponent, the officers identified as Ramón and Juan Carlos imposed a new warning on her and threatened to imprison her if she persisted in her activities.

Despite the intimidation, Ramos Herrería reaffirmed his commitment to activism. “As long as I have a breath of life, I will continue my fight against the Cuban regime,” he stressed.
