The president José Jerí highlighted on Thursday that the request for legislative powers that he will make to the Congress It is important for the fight against crime.
The head of state highlighted that criminal investigations have shown to reduce cell phone signal around and inside prisons. “This is a clear sign that, however, there is greater signal intensity in the prisons and within the prisons that there should not be,” he told 24 Horas.
When asked about other prisons that do not have a call blocking system, such as Challapalca and 30 other prisons, the president pointed out that he was informed by the concessionaire company that there were “bureaucratic delays” that have not allowed the signal block to be implemented.
“This contract has been in place since 2014 and 2015. Since then, due to these limitations (…) it has not been 100% implemented. But the important thing is that the requisitions (…) work,” he assured.
However, the head of state indicated that it is necessary to evaluate how to make the blockade sustainable and stressed that, for this, the legislative powers that they will request from Congress are important.
“That is why the issue of delegated powers is important, because it will allow us in practice [saber] “what measure or what legal norm do we need to modify in order to have sustainable action against crime,” he indicated.
The president of the republic pointed out that the immediate strategy is to attack crime “and in parallel the medium and long-term measures that will surely be implemented, to a large extent, by the next government.”
