President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrives in Belém this Saturday (1st) to fulfill a series of commitments related to the city’s preparation to host the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change in 2025 (COP30). The Chief Executive’s agenda includes inaugurations of infrastructure works and meetings with local communities.
In the morning, from 10 am, Lula accompanies the delivery of the expansion and modernization works at Belém International Airport. The project, which received investments of R$450 million from the concessionaire Norte da Amazônia Airports, is part of a set of structural improvements aimed at increasing the region’s air transport capacity. The ceremony will not be open to the press.
Then, at 11:30 am, the president participates in the inauguration of the new terminal at the Port of Outeiro, in an event open to journalistic coverage. The requalification of the port is considered strategic for the flow of production from the North Region and for strengthening the export matrix of the state of Pará.
Diplomatic marathon
Lula is expected to remain in the capital of Pará until at least next Friday (7). According to preliminary information, on Sunday (2) and Monday (3), the president is expected to visit quilombola and indigenous communities in difficult-to-access areas of the region.
There is still no confirmation about other authorities who will participate in the agendas, nor about the president’s presence in cultural events that will take place in the city.
On Tuesday (4), Lula will continue in Belém, but without official commitments. On Wednesday (5), bilateral meetings are expected, although the agendas are not yet confirmed. According to advisors, there are requests for four to five meetings with foreign authorities and representatives of international organizations.
On the 6th (Thursday) and 7th (Friday)), the president will participate in the Leaders’ Summit, an event that precedes COP30 and should bring together representatives from different countries to discuss the environmental agenda and preparations for the conference.
Celac
After the commitments in Belém, there is a possibility that Lula will travel to Fernando de Noronha on the 8th and 9th of November, where he will be able to participate in the launch of a solar energy project. Confirmation should occur in the next few days, through notice from Palácio do Planalto.
There is no forecast, for now, of the president’s participation in the next summit meeting of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), scheduled for the 9th and 10th of November, in Santa Marta, Colombia. The meeting will bring together leaders from the 27 countries of the European Union and the 33 CELAC nations, with a focus on resuming bi-regional dialogue and negotiations on the free trade agreement between Mercosur and the European Union.
