The Cybercrime Investigation Directorate of the National Police of Peru has registered 4,349 complaints for computer crimes so far in 2025, with computer fraud and identity theft being the most frequent modalities.
These figures confirm that cyber attacks increase during seasons of high digital consumption, such as massive commercial campaigns. “On dates like CyberWow and CiberDay, cybercriminals deploy more aggressive strategies, impersonating recognized brands or sending false messages with irresistible promotions. The key is to anticipate and not fall into traps that can cost dearly,” warns Leidivino Natal, CEO of Stefanini Cyber.
To protect yourself, the specialist recommends following digital security practices before, during and after purchases:
Buy only on official sites: It is important to check that the page has a security certificate (HTTPS) and that the URL matches the brand exactly. Attackers often create fake domains with minimal changes to letters or symbols.
Avoid suspicious links on social networks or text messages: Many scams start with a simple click on a link that redirects to a fake page to steal credentials or card information.
Activate multi-factor authentication: This adds a second layer of security to your bank accounts, digital wallets or payment apps, making unauthorized access difficult.
Make purchases from secure networks and trusted devices: Avoid making transactions from public Wi-Fi or shared computers.
Constantly monitor financial movements: Frequently reviewing accounts allows you to detect and report unauthorized transactions in time.
“Digital commerce has grown steadily in the country and that is positive, but cybersecurity must grow at the same pace. Users have the power to protect themselves if they adopt preventive measures and remain alert,” concludes Leidivino Natal.
