Transporters and authorities of the CDMX approve increasing the fare by 1.50 pesos

However, Francisco Carrasco, member of the Broad Transport Force, stated that the new rates come into force as of November 1; However, the new rates could be ready until next Monday.

He assured that with the increase of 1.50 pesos, to the concessioned transportation rate, all mobilizations, blockades or demonstrations by this organization are ruled out.

As part of the commitments to improve service, carriers must:

-Carry a valid and visible type “C” license.
-Remove tinted windows and have civil liability insurance.
-Display the license plate number on the unit’s color chart.
-Keep lights, brakes, tires, doors and safety devices (cameras, emergency buttons and GPS) in good condition.
-Wear a uniform (dark pants and white shirt), keep the units clean and participate in training programs.

What were the transporters asking for?

The transporters also requested the delivery of a monthly bonus or subsidy of up to 13,000 pesos per unit from the government, to cover operating and fuel expenses.

Likewise, they proposed that, if the subsidy is not authorized, consideration should be given to standardizing the fare with that of the State of Mexico, where the minimum ticket price is 14 pesos.

Francisco Carrasco, representative of the Broad Force of Transporters (FAT), an organization that brings together more than 8,000 workers on different routes, considered the rate adjustment necessary, since the last one was generated in 2022.

He stated that in this period, the prices of fuel, supplies and even the salary of all drivers have increased, which makes it unsustainable to maintain the current rate of between six and eight pesos.

“There are colleagues who cannot even afford to provide preventive maintenance to their units, so let’s do this exercise, have them increase our rate and within a period of three months we would be in better conditions,” he stated.

The FAT, who recently threatened to mobilize throughout Mexico City and generate a massive blockade, assured that in the meeting with capital authorities they will put on the table the possibility of a slight increase in the fare, accompanied by a bonus.

For his part, Jesús Padilla, president of the Movilidad y Vanguardia (Mova) association, agreed on the need to increase the two-peso ticket price, accompanied by a fuel and supplies bonus, as a basis for improving the service and units on different routes.

“It must be said very clearly; of the last 30 companies that have been created, 24 are bankrupt, if we follow that route we are not going to provide the service that citizens require. There can be no quality service without a subsidy. There can be no first-class service with a third-rate rate,” he said.

Padilla said that Metrobús, Trolebús, RTP and Cablebus are subsidized passenger transportation services, which are recognized for their quality and continuous improvement.

The meeting began shortly before 6:00 p.m. at the facilities of the Mobility Secretariat and concluded after 9:30 p.m. Representatives from different routes and companies participated, as well as the Secretary of Mobility, Héctor Ulises García Nieto, the Secretary of Government, César Cravioto, and Juan Pablo de Botton, Secretary of Administration and Finance of the capital.
