More than two thousand displaced people return to their homes in Briceño with support from the Victims Unit, despite fear of violence.
Jorge Apolinar Jaramillo, one of the displaced people returning to his home, in the municipality of Briceño, north of Antioquia, said that displacement has plagued him all his life, and that violence took away a son from him when he fell into a minefield 14 years ago.
“We were at a work site where there were several bombs and the boss where we were going to work did not tell us that it was mined. At 6:00 am we started work and at that time the child who stepped on the landmine died.”held.

Mario Rodríguez, community leader who is also returning home, pointed out that he returnedor of the people is on account of the needa situation that makes them overcome the security and tranquility of their families, keeping in mind that at any time confrontations between illegals could occur.
“We are entering with fear. We are entering out of necessity but we are not completely sure that we will not have to leave the territory again due to clashes,” he stated.
These people and their family units are part of the more than two thousand displaced people who return to their homes and do so with humanitarian aid from the Victims Unit, which delivered 42 tons of food and other supplies.
As indicated by the entity, the delivery of aid in rural areas is carried out with the support of the Mayor’s Office and the Association of Community Action Boards, to guarantee theminimum subsistence of families in the coming weeks, while they regain their autonomy after abandoning their lands and livelihoods.
During this year, the Victims Unit has assisted more than 4,000 displaced families or confined during 28 massive emergencies that occurred in Antioquia due to the armed conflict. The most affected regions are Bajo Cauca, Northeast and North of the department.

On the other hand, it should be noted that troops from the Army’s Fourth Brigade are already present in the rural area of the municipality of Briceño, north of the department, where more explosive charges were recently found.
