Vladimiro Montesinos will be imprisoned until 2032: new sentence of 6 years lengthens his sentence

The president of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), Iván Paredes Yataco, confirmed that the former presidential advisor Vladimiro Montesinos Torres He will not obtain his freedom in 2026, as initially projected, due to the registration of a new six-year sentence against him.

This recent sentence prolongs the prison time of the former advisor of the regime of Alberto Fujimori, establishing that its release would only occur in the year 2032.

“No, no (he will be released in 2026). There is a new sentence that has already been registered, and Vladimiro Montesinos’ imprisonment is for six more years,” Paredes Yataco said to the Radio Nacional program ‘The Interview’.

With this new sentence, the release date of Montesinos Torres, who is currently 80 years old, is postponed until he turns 87 years old.

The head of INPE explained that additional details on the nature of this new sentence will be provided soon. It should be remembered that Montesinos is currently serving two accumulated sentences: one of 25 years for the Barrios Altos case and another of 20 years for forced disappearance and qualified homicide.

Vladimiro Montesinos remains detained in the Maximum Security Detention Center (CEREC), located inside the Callao Naval Base.

The news of the postponement of his freedom occurs months after his legal defense, led by César Pacheco, announced in May of this year that he would present a request to the Judiciary to benefit from Law 32181. This rule establishes that those over 80 years of age, for humanitarian reasons, can face their sentence under modalities such as appearance with restrictions. However, the new known sentence would frustrate this possibility of early release.
