The birthday celebration of a young woman from Cali ended in tragedy after she participated in a dangerous challenge with alcohol inside a nightclub in northern Cali. The challenge, which offered a million-dollar cash reward, cost him the life of María José Ardila, 23 years old.
According to the story of her father, Andrés Ardila, to a national media outlet, María was celebrating her birthday last weekend, accompanied by friends and in an environment where alcohol consumption was part of the fun. In the middle of the celebration, the young woman was asked to participate in a challenge that offered a reward of 1 million 500 thousand pesos. The dynamic consisted of completing six tests related to the rapid and excessive consumption of different alcoholic beverages.

According to his father, the challenge included drinking different drinks in a matter of seconds.: first a ‘cockroach’ in five seconds, then three shots in the same time, a full beer without breaks, another three shots without using your hands, drinking 13 consecutive seconds of brandy without spilling and finally eight different shots with a straw.
“She faints, vomits while she is unconscious, and breathes in.”said his father, explaining that he was just three drinks away from completing the challenge.
What else is known about the case?
In a matter of seconds, María José collapsed and stopped breathing. Witnesses claim that some 17 minutes before she was taken to a medical center. During that time, her friends tried to revive her, initially believing she was just passed out from the alcohol.
The Secretary of Health of Cali, Germán Escobar, confirmed that María José arrived at the hospital without vital signs. Although she was revived and transferred to intensive care, his condition was critical and he did not survive.

The incident generated indignation and questions about the responsibility of the nightclub, which, according to his father, did not have first aid personnel or medical attention. They were her friends who tried to take her in a taxi, believing that she was only unconscious from the alcohol.
