One week after having declared the state of emergency in Metropolitan Lima and Callao, the president José Jerí announced that it will present this Tuesday, October 28, the first balance of the results obtained in the fight against citizen insecurity.
During a supervision visit to the districts of Surco, Comas and San Juan de Lurigancho, the head of state confirmed the deployment of agents from the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and members of the Armed Forces in integrated patrol actions.
Jerí assured that work will be done to improve and adjust the strategies implemented in order to obtain more effective results in areas with a high incidence of crime.
“Tomorrow we will take stock of everything obtained in these seven days. In addition, we are going to propose new security measures in the Council of Ministers, in order to reinforce the preventive work that has been done in terms of patrolling,” said the president.
Jerí obtains 45% approval
President José Jerí, with just two weeks in office, obtains 45% support, compared to 42% who disapprove. 13% do not specify.
In Lima, his approval reaches 49%. In the interior of the country, however, his support drops to 43%, exactly the same as his disapproval.
The Ipsos survey also reveals that 78% agree that Jerí declared a state of emergency in Lima on October 22, due to growing citizen insecurity.
Night operation in three districts
The head of state’s tour began in the Surco district, where he visited the commune’s Monitoring Center together with the Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcio Orbezo; the general commander of the National Police of Peru (PNP), Oscar Arriola Delgado; and Mayor Carlos Bruce Montes de Oca. Likewise, he led an intervention that involved around 20 people, who had knives in their possession.
“The fight against crime must be supported by cooperation between the Armed Forces, the National Police of Peru and the municipalities, with adequate tools and valuable information that can be obtained through these centers,” he stressed.
Subsequently, the president traveled to Comas, where he met with the mayor, Ulises Villegas Rojas, at the district Monitoring Center.
From that point, he commented that one of the measures that could be proposed to improve citizen security would be drone patrolling around the city. In addition, officials visited the Los Halcones motorized Emergency Unit and Comas Base, to supervise the infrastructure and equipment of this facility.
“We want all municipalities to have the capabilities to be able to respond to alert situations that arise. For this reason, we are doing articulated work in different operations in the city, together with the National Police, the Armed Forces and the Serenazgo. We have declared war on crime and it will continue until we end it,” he highlighted.
The president ended the work day at dawn, in San Juan de Lurigancho, where he led an identity control operation in Canto Grande, which allowed the arrest of more than 80 people.
