MADRID, Spain.- Last October 21st was found in a well from the El Recurso farm, in the Alquízar municipality, province of Artemisa, the lifeless body of the six-year-old child Nelson Thiago García Lugones, who had been reported missing hours before.
As reported at the time by the provincial weekly The Artemiseñothe Provincial Headquarters of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) in Artemisa investigated the circumstances of the incident. The official media indicated that the minor “was playing with friends in that area” and that the family’s concern arose when the child did not return home.
In recent days, relatives of the minor reported that Thiago did not die by accident, but rather that he was murdered, and that his body had been thrown into the well after losing his life. The complaint was initially spread by the media Cubans around the World.
According to the text released by those close to him, the child had a blow to the head and did not show scratches or wounds consistent with having crossed the mountain where the well was found, an area that is difficult to access and surrounded by thick vegetation. Those who participated in the search reported being left with scratches and cuts, which, according to the family, supports their suspicion that the body was taken there.
Likewise, the relatives assured that there are identified suspects, but that the authorities have not acted or offered information about progress in the investigation.
The independent journalist José Luis Tan Estrada posted on his Facebook profile that “the murderer of the child Thiago was handed over to the authorities,” and cited sources close to the case who pointed out a man identified as Juan Carlos, about 50 years old, “father of the boy’s mother’s lover.”
So far, no official source has confirmed this version. Nor have the authorities issued an official note about the results of the investigation or the possible existence of detainees.
The case has shocked the community of Alquízar, where neighbors and relatives continue to demand justice for the death of little Nelson Thiago.
