Road blockades add more days in the states of the country

Where are there roadblocks?

Through its 𝕏 account, Federal Roads and Bridges of Income and Related Services (Capufe) reports on the points affected by the presence of protesters at the following points:

Querétaro-Irapuato Highway, at kilometer 64. Closure to traffic in both directions.

Mexico-Querétaro Highway, at the height of the Palmillas Collection Plaza. Reduction of lanes in both directions.

Guamúchil-Guasave Highway, at the height of the Sinaloa Bridge. No closure to circulation.

The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) details the blockades that are still maintained on some stretches of roads, highways and toll plazas due to the presence of protesters.

  • Maravatío-Zapotlanejo Highway, Ecuandureo toll plaza, km 360+060, free passage without toll, the same at the Panindícuaro booth, km 307+273; at the Zinapécuaro booth, km 202+256, free passage mode taking over the booth.

  • In Guanajuato, only in Juventino Rosas, highway 45D Salamanca-Celaya at the height of the Santiago de Cuenda community, remains in total closure.

“The SICT urges citizens to stay informed about the opening and closing of roads through the official channels of the agency and Capufe,” it details in a statement.

Why are farmers demonstrating?

Farmers from Michoacán, Jalisco and Guanajuato began a National Farmers’ Strike on October 27 within the framework of meetings held by leaders with representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Social Development (Sader), to ask to increase the guaranteed price per ton of corn to 7,200 pesos, which is currently at 3,129 pesos per ton.

On October 29, an agreement was reached for economic support of 950 pesos per ton of corn; The federal government will give them 800 pesos and the state governments, 150 pesos. . Despite this, some farm workers do not agree, so they continue their protests with road blockades.

What does the president say about the road blockades?

The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, referred to the issue during the People’s Morning on October 30 and stated that “in some cases there are other, not so legitimate interests in these road closures.”

The head of the Executive affirmed that support for farmers varies greatly depending on the area, due to the characteristics and cost of production.
