Penarol conquered for the first time AUF Uruguay Cup after beating this Wednesday Colonia Square for 2-0. An own goal by goalkeeper Guillermo Reyes and another by Argentine Eric Remedi gave the Aurinegro team the victory at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo. Diego Aguirre’s men are the second team to bring the Uruguay Cup to their showcases, which in its first three editions was won by Defensor Sporting.
In the first half of the match, Peñarol controlled the ball, but it was Plaza Colonia that generated the clearest chances. With movements from the center to the right, the Brazilian Álex Bruno complicated the Aurinegro defense on several occasions. In fact, Diego Villalba was close to scoring with a header after a good clearance from number 9.
Minutes later, Juan Manuel Ramos assisted from the left and Chilean goalkeeper Brayan Cortés dressed as a hero to clear a good header from Benjamín Acosta with a spectacular save. At the other end of the field, the last line and the defensive midfielders of Plaza Colonia working together were in charge of closing almost all the paths of a Peñarol that resorted to finishing from outside. Leonardo Fernández and Jesús Trindade tried from afar and Guillermo Reyes responded well.

Then, Matías Arezo received the ball filtered from the center of the field and was very close to scoring with a shot that went very close to the left vertical. Peñarol also came close with a Trindade cross that Maximiliano Silvera could not head. The first half ended with a goalless tie and the second began with Peñarol dominating, seeking the first goal of the final, which came in the 63rd minute.
