The demand that businessman Ricardo Salinas Pliego pay his taxes is the result of a technical issue after audits were carried out on his companies, which revealed tax debts, said President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“It is not a personal matter against him or against his business group; it is not that we are politicizing an issue, it is simply a definition that has been in place since 2008, of a payment that must be made to the treasury,” he stressed.
Regarding the arrest of businessman Víctor Álvarez Puga in the United States, the president pointed out that the case is in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office, which should report whether his extradition or deportation is sought, but “the idea is that he be brought to Mexico.”
In her morning conference, the President declined to get involved in the new conflict between Salinas Pliego and the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, where the businessman wanted to stop the resolution of two lawsuits against him: “now he really has chocolate, pay what you owe,” he expressed.
Later, he said that this issue is something serious, because they are resources whose beneficiary is the Mexican people, which is why he said that regardless of the considerations that the businessman has, he must pay what he owes.
Sheinbaum pointed out that these litigations that arose from the resources he filed are a very serious matter, so his government will wait for what the Court determines in this regard, since the amount is based on technical issues, he insisted.
