The Ministry of Foreign Affairs activated its consular support network to assist Peruvian citizens who remain in Jamaica after the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
The entity reported that, so far, no injured or physically affected compatriots have been recorded in the area impacted by the climate phenomenon.
Assistance is coordinated by the Consulate General of Peru in Panama, responsible for jurisdiction in Jamaica, together with the honorary consular agent in Montego Bay. Both instances have enabled communication channels, registered Peruvians in the area and provided immediate support.
Consular authorities reported that 14 Peruvians were unable to leave the island due to the closure of the Montego Bay international airport.
The Foreign Ministry indicated that it will continue to manage the return of stranded citizens and guarantee that they remain in adequate conditions while they wait for the reopening of air routes.
