The young Brazilian tennis player João Fonseca said goodbye this Wednesday (29) to the Masters 1000 in Paris, after being beaten 2 sets to 1 by the Russian Karen Khachanov – partials of 6/1, 3/6, and 6/3 – in the second round of the tournament. The 19-year-old from Rio (28th in the rankings) was dominated in the first set, but recovered afterwards. More assertive on the court, he managed to tie the game, thanks to some unforced errors from the Russian. However, in the third and decisive set, the experience of Khachanov (14th) weighed in, sealing the victory with partials of 6/1, 3/6, and 6/3. In the round of 16, the Russian tennis player will face Australian Alex de Minaur.
Champion at the ATP 500 in Basel (Switzerland) on Sunday (26th), Fonseca entered the court today after a run of six consecutive games: there were five triumphs in Basel, with an interval of just one day until his debut yesterday in Paris, with a comeback victory, by 2 sets to 1, over Canadian Denis Shapovalov (24th).

Khachanov, 29, had an easy victory in the first match of the Masters 1000 last Monday (27), against the American Ethan Quinn, with a double 6/1. Furthermore, he only played one day last week, when he was eliminated in his debut at the ATP 500 in Vienna.
Fonseca will still be looking for his third title of the season – the first was the ATP 250 in Buenos Aires. The Rio native is confirmed for the ATP 250 in Athens (Greece), which starts next Monday (November 3).
