According to historical accounts, Saint Elizabeth It was founded on September 12, 1893 with the original name of Tolda de María. Since then, the town grew under that dedication, combining the European heritage of the name with the rural identity of Tolima.
Located about 2,250 meters above sea level, Santa Isabel is considered the agricultural pantry of northern Tolima. Its fertile land and the constant work of its farmers have positioned it as an epicenter of food production, especially peas, a crop from which experts say the best seed in the country comes, according to information from the Government of Tolima.
