The Colombian Federation of Education Workers (Fecode) announced that it is firmly calling on the country’s teachers to hold a 24-hour national strike on October 30. In Bogotá the agreement It will be in the Plaza de Bolívar.

“We demand that in this reform the sectoral structure of the system be maintained to protect education and health resources. We cannot allow the specific destination that guarantees investment in fundamental rights to be lost,” said teacher Martha Alfonso, Fecode executive.
He highlighted that the first purpose of the day is to demand the filing of the bill that regulates Legislative Act 03 of 2024, which reformed the General Participation System (SGP).
“Fecode demands that the new standard guarantee the sectoral distribution of resources, particularly for education, health, drinking water and basic sanitation, in order to ensure sufficient and stable financing of essential social services,” he said.
The Fecode representative indicated that the second point of the call It focuses on the stabilization of the teaching health model.
“Fecode highlighted that, although progress has been made in the implementation of Agreement 03, difficulties persist that affect the medical care of teachers and their families. The union insists that the IPS must adhere to the new national tariff, which seeks to correct distortions in costs and guarantee a quality service without surcharges,” he noted.
He noted that this new system seeks to correct the errors of this system. “The new tariff respects the real costs of health services, even higher in some casesbut it regulates it and corrects the cost overruns that were affecting the system,” he explained.
He pointed out that the third axis of the protest will be the defense and strengthening of the National Fund for Social Benefits of Teachers (FOMAG), created by Law 91 of 1989, and whose administration and sustainability FECODE considers fundamental to guaranteeing the benefit rights of teachers.
“The organization also questioned the actions of the Secretary of Education of Bogotá, which it accused of failing to comply with previous agreements with the District’s teachers, by imposing new conditions that according to the union violate the right to mobilization. We reject that the Secretary of Education of Bogotá imposes restrictions on the legitimate exercise of the protest.
