San Pedro de Macorís.– The Cáritas Diocesana of San Pedro de Macorís expressed this Wednesday its deep concern for the measure adopted by the transport company Utrasars SRLwhich supposedly prohibited their drivers transport haitian citizens on the route that connects the provinces Santiago Rodríguez and Santiago.

The Catholic organization described the provision, contained in a statement issued last October 20as a discriminatory act that violates human dignity and contradicts the principles of justice and fraternity that should govern the social coexistence.

“Every person, regardless of their nationality, race or immigration status, has a dignity that must be respected and protected. No circumstance justifies exclusive treatment”expressed Cáritas, recalling that its mission is inspired by the Gospel and the social doctrine of the Church.

The entity also urged the competent authorities to “accompany this process with balance, justice and respect for human rights,” and called on the private and transport companies to remember “its social responsibility and the Christian value of hospitality”.

Cáritas Diocesana of San Pedro de Macorís concluded its message by inviting “to prayer, dialogue and common sense”trusting that Dominican society “can overcome the current social tension with mutual respect and awareness that we are all children of the same God.”
