The operation launched by the government of Rio de Janeiro, this Tuesday (28), against the Comando Vermelho faction, had international repercussions due to the dozens of deaths. Officially, there are 64 deaths – including four police officers –, but the final numbers are expected to exceed 100. Other countries and international entities also spoke out regarding the high level of lethality.
The UN (United Nations) made a post, late last night, on its profile on the X network (formerly Twitter), where it wrote: “Brazil: we are horrified by the ongoing police operation in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, which has already resulted in the deaths of more than 60 people, including four police officers. This lethal operation reinforces the trend of extremely fatal consequences of police actions in Brazil’s marginalized communities. We remind the authorities of their obligations under international human rights law and urge them to carrying out rapid and effective investigations”.
The English newspaper The Guardian published an article with the title: “Brazil: at least 64 dead on the most violent day in Rio de Janeiro amid police raids”.
Next, the publication wrote: “The operation — the most lethal in the history of Rio — began at dawn and saw an intense exchange of gunfire on the outskirts of the Alemão and Penha favelas, where around 300,000 people live.” And he added: “Terrible photos with some of the young dead men spread across social media.”
