MADRID, Spain.- The Cuban authorities confirmed that Elizabeth González Díaz and Diosdado González Martínez, mother and stepfather of a girl victim of abuse, must respond criminally for the events spread days ago on social networks, where The woman is seen hitting her daughter while the stepfather records the attack.
According to a official note from the Provincial Government of Holguín, The case was analyzed by a team made up of the community’s social policy group, the Ministry of Education, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of the Interior of Holguín, in coordination with the authorities of Ciego de Ávila, the family’s province of origin.
The investigation determined that “both adults engaged in actions constituting child abuse.” The document indicates that these events are not recent, but that the authorities had not been aware of the pattern of violent behavior that the mother used with the girl and her other son.
According to the information, the minors were transferred to a Home for children without parental care, where they will receive psychological care and support from specialized personnel. Both will remain together to “reduce the emotional impact” derived from the violence suffered.
González Díaz and González Martínez are being investigated for the possible crime of “Other acts contrary to the comprehensive development of minors,” although the Prosecutor’s Office does not rule out the indictment of other charges as the investigation progresses.
This same week, a profile linked to the regime indicated through Facebook that Elizabeth González Díaz and her partner had been detained after an operation carried out in Holguín.
The case came to light on Sunday after the publication of the video on social networks, which showed the ten-year-old minor —identified as Diagni Daniela González— being attacked by her mother for poor school grades, while another child—also the woman’s son—was forced to pour cold water on her.
This fact revived the debate on the effective protection of children in Cuba and the lack of institutional response mechanisms against episodes of domestic violence.
