Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined this Tuesday (28) that the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) respond, within 24 hours, on the request from the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) for the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Claudio Castro, to provide information on the Operation Containmentwhich left at least 64 people dead.
The order was issued after the minister take command of the process known as ADPF das Favelas, an action in which the Court has already determined measures to combat police lethality in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
After carrying out the operation, the CNDH asked the Supreme Court that Castro present a report on the operationthe formal justification for its implementation, and clarify the measures adopted to help victims and guarantee the accountability of agents in the event of possible non-compliance with human rights.
Earlier, Moraes was chosen to make urgent decisions involving the process, given the absence of a rapporteur for the case. The action was led by former minister Luís Roberto Barroso, who retired last week.
In April this yearthe Supreme Court defined measures to combat police lethality during Military Police operations against organized crime in the communities of Rio de Janeiro.
