The Provincial Government of Holguín offered new details about the case of child abuse that spread on social networks last week.
Through a note published on their Facebook profile, the authorities reported that joint work was carried out between the social policy group of the community and the municipality, as well as with representatives of the Ministries of Education and the Interior, and the Prosecutor’s Office, both in Holguín and Ciego de Ávila, the province of origin of the family involved.
The investigations determined that Elizabeth González Díaz, mother of the girl, and Diosdado González Martínez, stepfather, incurred actions constituting child abuse.
Both are under judicial process for the alleged crime of “Other acts contrary to the comprehensive development of minors.”
The authorities specified that the progress of the investigation will determine whether they are charged with other crimes that could be incorporated into the criminal case.
Both the girl who was the victim of the abuse shown in the video broadcast on social networks and her siblings were transferred to a home for children without family protection, in accordance with the protocol established for this type of situation, reported the statement from the Provincial Government of Holguín.
In this center, minors have adequate conditions and specialized personnel, in charge of providing them with care and treatment with the required care and professionalism. The authorities specified that the brothers remain together, with the aim of minimizing the psychological impact of what happened.
The statement adds that preliminary investigations revealed that the incident is not recent, and that there was no prior knowledge of its occurrence, nor of the inadequate method that the mother usually used to correct her children, which led to an act of extreme violence for which she must be held criminally responsible.
The Provincial Government of Holguín called to avoid the dissemination on social networks of sensitive content that could further violate the rights of minors.
Likewise, he recalled the position of Cuban government institutions regarding cases of child violence and reaffirmed the commitment to act quickly and rigorously in the face of any situation that threatens the integrity of children, in strict compliance with current legislation.
The video, in which Elizabeth González Díaz attacks and insults her little daughter, went viral last week, generating a wave of complaints on social networks and to the authorities, who managed to quickly identify and locate the aggressor.
