Condenan a 30 años de prisión a hombre por asesinato en Puerto Plata

SANTO DOMINGO .- The Fourth Collegiate Court of Santo Domingo Oeste sentenced a man to 30 years in prison after finding him guilty of having set fire to his neighbor’s home in an event that occurred on September 1, 2024, on the Nueva Circunvalación highway in the municipality of Los Alcarrizos.

Judges Leonarda Quezada, Sandra Josefina Cruz and Clara Yoselin Rivera issued the conviction against Edwin Féliz Jhons, against whom prosecutors Sugely Valdez and Nicasio Pulinario presented to the court multiple evidence that demonstrated his criminal responsibility in the event.

According to the investigation led by prosecutor Argenis Gutiérrez, several eyewitnesses observed the defendant heading towards the victim’s residence, carrying a gallon of gasoline. Minutes later, the house was consumed by flames along with the trousseau that was inside it.

After starting the fire, Féliz Jhons tried to flee the scene, but he was detained by members of the community, who held him in a commercial establishment until the arrival of a police patrol, and he was arrested in flagrante delicto.

Judges Leonarda Quezada, Sandra Josefina Cruz and Clara Yoselin Rivera found him guilty of violating article 434 of the Dominican Penal Code, which classifies the crime of arson, and ordered that he serve the sentence imposed in the La Victoria Deprivation of Liberty Center (CPL).This article was originally published in The Day
