Banco W achieves important recognition from a prominent rating firm for its financial solidity

The entity achieved the highest risk rating in Colombia: AAA, reflecting its stability, responsible management and leadership in microfinance.

Bank W reached a new milestone in its history. The rating firm BRC Ratings – S&P Global SA SCV raised its long-term debt rating to AAA, the highest note on its institutional risk scale in Colombia, and reaffirmed the maximum short-term debt rating BRC1+.

According to Banco W, this recognition reflects “the gradual recovery of Banco W’s expansion rate in the last 12 months and the participation of the Grupo Social Foundation as a majority shareholder since May 2025.”

The entity highlighted that this new rating is aligned with its mission and represents an opportunity to strengthen synergies that drive its growth in the medium term.

It also highlights the relevant participation of Banco W in the microfinance segment, its adequate levels of solvency and liquidity, and the strengthening of strategic lines such as remittances, bancassurance and institutional funding. These factors reflect the bank’s ability to meet its financial commitments and consolidate the confidence of clients, shareholders and investors in products such as CDT, bonds and savings accounts.

The president of Banco W, José Alejandro Guerrero, stated that achieving the AAA rating is the result of “rigorous, ethical and deeply committed to the mission of offering sustainable financial solutions.”

“This recognition not only validates our institutional strength, but also enhances our ability to continue promoting the development of small businesses and independent workers in the country. At Banco W, we continue to be an excellent investment alternative, generating high social impact and building trust in every step we take,” said Guerrero.

For his part, Rubens Héctor Sandoval, financial and administrative vice president, assured that this achievement reflects “the serious commitment to financial sustainability, social impact and operational excellence.”

“At Banco W we work every day to strengthen our structure, optimize our resources and generate value for all our stakeholders,” he added.

Factors supporting AAA rating

According to the entity, the main aspects that support this qualification are:

  • The positive perception of the capacity and willingness to support its shareholders: Fundación Grupo Social and Fundación WWB Colombia.
  • Fundación Grupo Social and Fundación WWB Colombia, as shareholders, have the capacity and willingness to provide equity support to the bank in stress scenarios.
  • The bank’s relevant participation in the microcredit segment and its presence in the remittance business, which contributes to income diversification.
  • Solid levels of solvency, with a wide margin compared to the regulatory minimum, which support financial stability.
  • Recovery of financial results thanks to the expansion of the intermediation margin and the stability of the cost of credit.

In terms of figures, Bank W reported that in the last 12 months it disbursed more than 172,000 microcredits, for a total value of $1.2 billion. In addition, deposits in CDT grew by 8%, reaching nearly $1.3 trillion as of September 2025.

“During 2025, it has promoted the digital CDT, which has allowed it to raise resources for $50,000 million at the end of September,” the entity noted.

Bank W reported that in the last 12 months it has managed the payment of approximately US$950 million, corresponding to 3.7 million net transfers received for remittances.

With this recognition, Banco W reaffirms its position as one of the most reliable financial entities in the country, combining solid results with a human and sustainable approach that strengthens its social impact and its leadership in the microfinance sector in the country.
