He Minister of the Interior, Vicente Tiburcioleft open the possibility of a curfew in Metropolitan Lima and Callao in the middle of the state of emergency.
Upon leaving the event for War Veteran’s Day and National Pacification, the official explained that the Council of Ministers continues in permanent session to evaluate new security measures within the current state of emergency.
“This is under evaluation by the Council of Ministers, we will see. We continue to review the entire process of the state of emergency,” Tiburcio told RPP, who highlighted that decisions will be adopted according to the progress of the operations and police intelligence reports.
On October 21, President José Jerí decreed a state of emergency for 30 days in Lima and Callao, a measure that restricts constitutional rights such as personal freedom and security, inviolability of home, freedom of assembly and free movement.
The decree also establishes that public and massive events – religious, cultural or sporting – must have prior authorization from the competent authorities, while activities with smaller capacity may be carried out without permission.
