The day before the political coordination board (Jucopo) of the Chamber of Deputies determines the measures to guarantee the presence of legislators in sessions and in work in committees, the Morena bench called on its members not to contribute to absenteeism.
This parliamentary group has 253 deputies, and yesterday its coordinator, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, highlighted: “yes, we have to demand that there be a presence in committees and in the plenary session of deputies; finally, that is our responsibility.”
Blanco Bravo, the trigger
A week after the former soccer player Cuauhtémoc Blanco Bravo (Morena) connected to the Budget Commission while playing paddle tennis in the Desierto de los Leones – only to register attendance –, the Jucopo will define whether to end the blended sessions, which allow deputies not to physically attend the Chamber.
The coordinators’ decision will also be made after, last Thursday, only one deputy attended the session of the Budget Commission, Reginaldo Sandoval Flores (PT), while another 42 connected through the Chamber’s remote application.
For now, this afternoon’s meeting of the Justice Commission, in which the opinion of the General Extortion Law will be voted, will already be in person, which will force legislators to go to the Legislative Palace of San Lázaro.
Yesterday, in addition, Monreal highlighted that “being a legislator is an honor and a privilege among citizens… only 500 representatives of the nation can be here, that is why we have to make an effort, each and every one, to fulfill our responsibility” by attending the Chamber.
Respond with loyalty and responsibility
The legislator stressed that the deputies have an obligation not only personal, but also with the population: “In the movement that we are part of, we have to respond with seriousness, effectiveness, loyalty and responsibility.”
In that sense, he called to “comply with Mexico, support the country and close ranks with President Claudia Sheinbaum. Let us advance in the regulatory construction of a new legal system that protects and defends everyone.”
