Military agents detained agricultural producer Raúl Alexis Giraldo Murillo during a procedure carried out at Agropecuaria El Carmen, as part of Operation Catatumbo Lightning, deployed in the South of Lake Maracaibo, Zulia.
Agricultural machinery, vehicles, livestock and other property allegedly linked to the crime or considered of criminalistic interest were seized at the site, according to official reports.
Several properties directly associated with the detainee were also occupied, while security forces are tracking other properties that could be in the name of third parties to conceal their relationship with the investigation and hide irregularly acquired assets.
Giraldo Murillo was duly presented before the courts with jurisdiction over terrorism in the Metropolitan Area of Caracas, where he was deprived of liberty and charged with the crimes of drug trafficking, terrorism and treason, in accordance with current legislation.
The investigations do not rule out the participation of other people who would make up the criminal network, including front men, business partners and logistics operators, allegedly in charge of managing resources, assets and economic activities linked to the detainee.
The intelligence bodies continue to track movable and immovable property and bank accounts associated with the investigated structure.
The Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, has said in successive press conferences that Operation Catatumbo Lightning has allowed “a forceful hit to criminal networks dedicated to drug trafficking and money laundering.”
