“To get there (meet Goal 2036), if you don’t have the energy required, you won’t get there. To double the GDP we cannot do it based on water (hydroelectric generation) because it will not be sustainable. The second thing, apart from doubling the GDP, is to anticipate how to integrate artificial intelligence into that goal,” he explained.
The professor suggested that making the transition to renewable energy “is very important” and that it should be combined with other sources, such as modular nuclear powerhydrogen and geothermal.
However, he stated that, although it is important energy transitionthe conversation in the country should revolve around energy security.

“What happened in the summer (electrical outages due to high demand) should not occur. Carry energy securitythat is the most important thing, but not based on fossil fuels or using water, because that is short term,” he said.
The professor, who was invited to the country to participate as a speaker at the Forum 2025 of the Dominican Association of the Electrical Industry (ADIE), maintained that having sufficient energy and from diverse sources will allow the country attract companies.

The owner of Renewable Energy and Energy Systems in the Purdue University did not hesitate to affirm that the Dominican Republic must be the energy hub for the region of Caribbean and Central America.
