Monción, Santiago Rodríguez. – The president Luis Abinader This Sunday he toured the dams of Hatillo, Monción, Tavera and Rincón to verify the levels of their reservoirs, given the rain forecasts of the Hurricane Melissacategory 4, which could affect the Northern region starting this Monday.

During the supervision, the president highlighted the good management of the dams during the recent rains, which, he said, avoided emergency situations in the South of the country.

“We came to see the preparations and we see that they have done it quite well. They have complied with the protocol and no prisoner has had major difficulties,” said Abinader.

The head of state indicated that the dams of Tavera and Corner remain stable, while Hatillo presents the highest level of concern as it could begin to leak if it continues to fill, which would affect the Under Yuna.

“We are taking precautionary measures in Sandy, Villa Riva and nearby communities,” he added.

He also highlighted that the levels of the reservoirs were reduced to maintain electricity generation without compromising security.

“We don’t have the difficulties of other times,” he said.

Regarding the dam Moncionreported that it is close to its discharge level, but under control due to the electricity generation process. About the dam Saint Johnexplained that its basin remains at manageable levels and that, even if the rains persist in the southwest, there is no cause for alarm.

Abinader also highlighted that the dam Big Mountain is fulfilling its containment function, preventing floods that affect agriculture and the lives of the inhabitants of the area of ​​the Yaque del Sur.

The president announced that in the coming days he will supervise the dams in the South and insisted that all preventive measures are maintained in Peravia, San Cristobal and San José de Ocoa.

According to the Dominican Institute of Hydraulic Resources (Indrhi):

  • Tavera-Bao: Level 321.89 (76% of its volume). Inlet: 46.14 m³/s; output per generation: 61.26 m³/s.
  • Hatillo: Level 84.74 (88%). He rose 1.15 meters. Inlet: 104.00 m³/s; output per generation: 14.00 m³/s.
  • Montion: Level 279.28 (98%). It rose 0.41 meters. Inlet: 35.92 m³/s; output per generation: 34.68 m³/s.
  • Valdesia: Level 148.37 (90.05%). He rose 2.69 meters. Inlet: 82.10 m³/s.
  • Jigüey: Level 520.50 (41%). He climbed 11.25 meters. Inlet: 96.24 m³/s.
  • Savannah Mare: Level 389.48 (69%). He rose 1.27 meters. Inlet: 56.16 m³/s. (Power plant out of operation).
  • Sabaneta: Level 644.08 (100.43%). It dropped 0.14 meters. Inlet: 16.05 m³/s; discharge: 6.83 m³/s; total output: 17.05 m³/s.
  • Corner: Level 121.53 (95.4%). It rose 0.78 meters. Inlet: 16.79 m³/s; output per generation: 10.35 m³/s
